Levered Natural Gas Name Draws Upside Call Option Buys
Comstock Resources (CRK) with unusual activity on 11/20 as 3250 June $18 calls bought aggressively $1.30 to open and then 10,000 of the $25 calls bought $0.45 and 4000 December $17 calls bought $0.25. CRK previously had seen some buys in January and March $11 calls as well as March $15 calls. CRK shares broke out of a bull flag yesterday and the weekly is breaking out of a large base that measures back to $17.50. CRK is a leading independent natural gas producer operating primarily in the Haynesville shale, a premier natural gas basin located in North Louisiana and East Texas with superior economics given its geographical proximity to the Gulf Coast markets. CRK has a market cap of $4.4B and trades 7X EBITDA with revenues seen rising 32% in FY25 and EBITDA seen growing 32%. Analysts have an average target of $10 on shares and short interest elevated at 8.5% of the float. BAML recently initiated shares at Buy with a $14 target as one of the most levered names to natural gas and most of its debt is longer maturities. KeyBanc interesting note back in September on the potential for Jerry Jones to take Comstock private.
